WATSONVILLE — Frances Ann Ortiz died at home on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017. She was 56.
“Nani” as she preferred to be called, was born Frances Ann Tavera on June 26, 1960 in Beeville, Texas to Juan and Maria Tavera.
Mrs. Ortiz was a licensed cosmetologist and worked at the Watsonville Post Office for many years. Known to some as the “mail lady,” she delightfully delivered mail to her customers and made many heartfelt connections with them. She made many friends on her “route.”
She believed that one of her purposes in life was to ensure a “good life” for her children. Guided by this belief, she worked hard to provide them opportunities not available to her growing up. She is most fondly remembered for her generous heart and spirit and her love of life. She loved taking pictures and she loved chocolate.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Ortiz; her three sons, Richard De la Paz, Joel Ortiz, and Justin Paul Ortiz; two daughter-in-laws, Michele De la Paz and Nataly Ortiz; seven grandchildren; siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. with the funeral service to begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
