WATSONVILLE — J Asuncion Vega died peacefully surrounded by his family in Watsonville on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. He was 75.
He was born on April 2, 1941 in Purépero de Echáiz, Michoacán, Mexico. Mr. Vega was an active member of Assumption Church and active voter. He was a storyteller, former laborer, cannery employee, manufacturer of pools, boats and skateboards, fisherman, collector, carpenter, landscaper and bricoleur.
He is survived by his wife, Serapia Vega Cendejas; and children, Sergio Vega, Adam Vega, Ma. Guadalupe McKeithen Vega, Graciela Vega Cendejas, and Martha Victoria Vega; siblings, Valente Vega, Feliciano Vega, Francisco Vega, Maria Elena Vega, and Angel Vega; and his 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Vega was preceded in death by his siblings, Lucio Vega, Victoria Vega and Salvador Vega.
Visitation services will be held on Monday. March 20 from 5-8:30 p.m. at Iglesia de la Asuncion, 100 Salinas Road, Watsonville, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at Iglesia de la Asuncion with burial to follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, 127 Hecker Pass Road, Watsonville with a reception to follow at Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds (Heritage Hall), 2601 East Lake Ave., Watsonville.
