SOQUEL — An 80-year-old man who had been missing since late Tuesday night was found dead in a river along Soquel San Jose Road near Amaya Ridge Road Thursday.
According to SCSO spokesman Chris Clark, Ray Moore drove away from his home on Cherryvale Avenue in Soquel at about 10 p.m.
When his wife woke up at 6 a.m. Wednesday, he was still missing, Clark said.
Moore’s truck was discovered at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, crashed into a ravine on Soquel/San Jose Road. His keys and paperwork were found nearby.
The Sheriff’s Office set up a command post at the Soquel High School campus in the lower parking lot, being that school is still on winter break. Search and rescue teams and deputies use the post as a staging area for the various search operations. They also brought in a helicopter Thursday morning in hopes that Moore might be spotted from the air. Officials carefully monitored the nearby rain-swollen Soquel Creek, whose waters are rushing violently due to recent storms.
