WATSONVILLE One man was killed and another seriously injured Thursday on Highway 17 when a dump truck struck them, California Highway Patrol Officer Trista Drake said.

According to Drake, the injured man was taken by ground ambulance to a San Jose trauma center.

The men were workers from Graniterock, which has crews cleaning up a recent mudslide on the highway.

Investigators believe that the incident was accidental.

According to Graniterock spokeswoman Shanna McCord, the man who was killed was a 54-year-old Los Banos resident who had been with the company for 15-and-a-half years. He was married with two children.

"We are extremely sad here," McCord said. "He was valuable to the company. He was very well liked and respected. This is a huge loss for us."

No information was available Thursday afternoon for the worker who was injured.

The men have not been identified.

This story will be updated.
