WATSONVILLE — An Aptos man died Saturday when the Jeep he was driving overturned and threw him from the vehicle on Silliman Road east of Watsonville.
California Highway Patrol officer Trista Drake said the 60-year-old driver had a 55-year-old male from Watsonville and a 52-year-old Salinas man as passengers in his 1957 CJ-5 Jeep.
Around 11:20 a.m. the trio were traveling northbound on the 300 block of Silliman Road, near Highway 129, at an undetermined speed when the Jeep went out of control on a hillside. As the driver was unable to slow the Jeep he lost control and all three occupants were thrown from the vehicle.
The CHP was joined by Pajaro Valley Fire, Cal Fire, Watsonville Fire and American Medical Response at the scene. Though life-saving measures were administered, Drake said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:05 p.m. The two passengers suffered moderate to major injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been involved, Drake said.
