MONTEREY COUNTY — The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect in a homicide that occurred on the 1100 block of Trafton Road Wednesday morning.

Jesus Jose Quesada, who is reportedly in his 20s, was arrested after a brief standoff with police.

According to Monterey County Sheriff’s Commander John Thornberg, deputies responded to a call of a homicide at about 10:10 a.m. at 1131 Trafton Road.

The victim, identified only as a male, died from blunt force trauma to the head after possibly being hit with a ceramic tile.

The property is surrounded by farm fields and is ringed by a dense growth of trees. It lies in a rural area west of Royal Oaks, and includes several buildings and vehicles.

The search for the suspect included a helicopter and at least two K9 officers. When he was located, Quesada briefly refused to come out of one of the buildings on the property.

Deputies said he had a gun, and ordered media away from the scene. Quesada surrendered before a SWAT team arrived.
