Hunter Matys, Aptos, Sr.: A three-sport athlete who made a big jump during his junior year, Matys is poised to be a key contributor for Aptos High athletics during his senior year.

Matys last season received a majority of the quarterback reps for the football team, as the Mariners finished runner-up in the Monterey Bay League Gabilan division and advanced to the Central Coast Section playoffs. He threw for 664 yards and six touchdowns, while also running for 251 yards and a pair of scores.

In the winter, Matys was a solid contributor off the bench in boys hoops, and in the spring he was one of the stars on the track and field team. Matys won the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League 100-meter title and also helped the Mariners win the team league title.

With several starters from last year’s boys basketball team gone to graduation, Matys could see a larger role in the winter to go along with his responsibilities in the fall and spring.
