Anita E. Ibarra passed away on June 18. She was 81.
Anita was born in Fresno on Sept. 14, 1937 to Miguel and Delfina Esqueda. She was on the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County and was a teacher’s aide of PVUSD for 20 years. She enjoyed being an advocate for those in need in the community. She liked gambling at the casinos, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed listening to Chente Fernandez, barbequing at home with her family and friends, and visiting relatives in Fresno and Calexico. Anita was dearly loved by the man of her dreams, “El Tigre.”
She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings; Helen Solano, Connie Castillanos, Leo Esqueda and Esther Ibarra; and her daughter Julie Hernandez.
She is survived by her partner of 33 years, Leonardo “El Tigre” Maldonado; siblings Danny Esqueda, Alice Reys and Rachel Esqueda; and her children JoAnn Ibarra, Paloma, Sholo, Delphina, David Ibarra, Joyce Mattos, Delfino Nellely, Cornellio, Jose, Javier and Fidel Merlan — “Los Tigritos.”
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1-5 p.m. at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. Burial will be held on July 5 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Cemetery.
