WATSONVILLE — The trio accused of shooting at two people after an alleged carjacking have been identified as Jose Contreras Valencia, 19, and Julio Galindo, 21. A 17-year-old boy is also suspected.

All were charged with two counts of attempted murder. They live in the Watsonville area.

Contreras Valencia and Galindo are being held in Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail. They are due in court on Tuesday morning.

According to police, a man saw his vehicle that had been stolen about two weeks earlier driving through Watsonville on Thursday night, and began to follow the suspects.

At least one of them took a shot at the victim.

They also shot at a Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputy who tried to stop the vehicle.

The suspects briefly eluded police, and abandoned the stolen car on Travers Lane before fleeing.

Several law enforcement agencies formed a perimeter around the area the suspects were thought to be hiding.

The chase ended Friday morning after a homeowner on Pioneer View Road fired shots when he spotted the suspects, and police found them with the help of a drone.

Nobody was injured during the nearly 12-hour incident.
