WATSONVILLE — Twenty-six new volunteers were sworn in as Court Appointed Special Advocates on March 6 by Judge Rebecca Connolly.

The newly-appointed volunteer advocates have been trained by CASA of Santa Cruz County and will be advocating for children in the county’s dependency (foster care) system.

“We had four new children referred to CASA right after this class graduated,” CASA Advocate Supervisor and Waitlist Manager Lucia de la Torre said. “They were immediately matched with an advocate, spending no time on our waitlist. That’s what we strive for at CASA, and we’re so fortunate to have trained volunteers ready to advocate for our children.”

For information on how to become a CASA volunteer advocate, contact CASA Outreach and Recruitment Manager Cita Rasul at 761-2956, extension 201, or visit www.casaofsantacruz.org.
