The Central Coast Section on Sunday rescheduled its upcoming cross country finals from Monday to Nov. 17 because of poor air quality stemming from the ongoing fires in Northern California.

It was the second time the CCS office decided to reschedule its cross country championships, which were originally slated for Nov. 10 at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont.

Nov. 17’s meet is set to take place at Crystal Springs, and will follow the original schedule, with the boy’s Division II race starting the action at 10 a.m.

The Aptos football team’s CCS Open Division III game against Terra Nova was also rescheduled from its original date of Nov. 9.

The No. 5-seeded Mariners (8-2) will travel to Pacifica on Monday for a 6 p.m. game against the No. 4-seeded Tigers (8-2).

The air quality in the Bay Area dipped to dangerous levels as smoke from the blaze in Paradise — just 14 miles east of Chico — made its way south.

According to the Associated Press, the death toll from the fire, which was deemed the state’s most destructive since record-keeping began, rose to 23 on Saturday.
