APTOS — An Aptos man is facing hit and run charges after he allegedly fled after striking a dog being walked along Spreckels Drive on Saturday afternoon.

Eric Brandenburg, 54, also faces charges of driving with a suspended driver’s license.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Sam Courtney, Brandenburg was driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota at about 1:10 p.m. when he struck a border collie named June, that was being walked by a couple on the shoulder of the road.

Brandenburg also struck a retaining wall and a passing vehicle, Courtney said.

The incident was not Brandenburg’s first brush with the law. He was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol both in 2008 and in 2013, court records showed. He was also convicted of driving while his license was suspended in 2009.

Brandenburg was not arrested.
