Diabetes Health Fair provides education

WATSONVILLE — On May 5 at the Watsonville Plaza, volunteers from the Regional Diabetes Collaborative, a program of the Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust, gathered to provide diabetes prevention education and blood glucose screenings to local residents attending the Watsonville Certified Farmer’s Market.

Students from the Watsonville High School Health Academy supervised children’s games, led CPR demonstrations, and participated in taking attendees’ blood pressure, while students from the Cabrillo College Nursing Program assisted staff from the Diabetes Health Center in providing free glucose screenings. 

A highlight of the event was a free raffle for a bicycle, two scooters, two tablets, Ninja blenders and more.

PVPSA holding open house

WATSONVILLE — Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance, 335 East Lake Ave. in Watsonville, will hold its first-ever Community Open House on Tuesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

PVPSA is a nonprofit agency that provides education, training, and counseling and prevention services to students, families, and staff of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.

PVPSA’s mission is to improve the quality of life of the students and families of the Pajaro Valley by providing health education, counseling and prevention services, and by advocating for public policies that protect the health of the community. A total of 6,820 children are served by PVPSA annually, with more than 525 parents and caregivers receiving parental education and support.

Triple P holding parenting workshop

APTOS — Triple P – Positive Parenting Program will offer the free workshop “Preventing and Managing Disobedience” on May 23 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Community Bridges, 236 Santa Cruz Ave. in Aptos. 

Attend this free workshop to learn why children might be uncooperative or refuse to follow directions; how to give instructions to facilitate your child’s cooperation; and how to respond calmly and consistently when your child refuses to follow directions.
