Gonzalo Fernández Fernández died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Dominican Hospital on June 10. He was 91.
He was born to Adolfo and Ausencía Fernández in Michoacán, México on October 11, 1927. He has been a resident of this community for more than 50 years.
Before retiring he worked in the fields herding cattle and picking strawberries, as well as the railroad tracks across the country. Mr. Fernández was a joyful person, who enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. He loved to dance at the Senior Center and had a love for music, especially rancheras.
Mr. Fernández is survived by his four sons, Jesús, Gonzalo, Esteban, and Adolfo Fernández; two daughters, Hortencía Hernández and Teresa Fernández; 20 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Sunday from 5-9 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption on Monday at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
