Gonzalo Hernandez Rios Jr. died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 surrounded by his family and loved ones on his 35th birthday after a short fight against cancer.

Mr. Hernandez Rios was a kind son, father, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He was a native of Watsonville. Born to Gonzalo and Maria Hernandez, he was a Watsonville High graduate. On Dec. 8, 2011 he welcomed his son, Nathan Hernandez, who was the most important part of his life.

He was a dedicated employee of the UPS. He enjoyed working out at Gold’s Gym and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He appreciated mariachi music and was enthusiastic about sports. He was a devoted Catholic and attended Mass on Sundays but his preferred activity was always spending time with his son.

Mr. Hernandez Rios is survived by his parents, Gonzalo and Maria Hernandez; siblings, Rudy and Beatriz Hernandez; son, Nathan Hernandez; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Services and viewing will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. The rosary will begin at 7 p.m. Mass will be Friday, Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s with burial to follow at Valley Catholic Cemetery.
