The Pajaro Valley High Grizzlies couldn’t pull the upset of the Monterey High Toreadores on Friday night, falling 55-21 on senior night at Cabrillo College in Monterey Bay League Pacific division action.

Monterey’s (2-3, 1-0) Iris Hutchins returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and the ‘Dores piled on from there.

They scored four more times before Pajaro Valley (1-5, 0-2) finally scored on the last play of the half. Junior quarterback Max Arevalo hit senior receiver Marco Bermudez for a 19-yard touchdown to make it 35-7 at intermission.

The Grizzlies will travel to Castroville next week to play the North Monterey County High Condors.

Aptos 47, Seaside 28 — The Aptos High Mariners won a shootout against the Seaside High Spartans on Friday night in Seaside to stay perfect in Monterey Bay League Gabilan division play.

Aptos (3-2, 2-0) led 28-14 at the half but Seaside (3-2, 0-2) kept pace in the second half, trailing by seven points heading into the fourth quarter before the Mariners put the game away and notched their 34th consecutive league win.

The Mariners host North Salinas High next week.

St. Francis 42, Greenfield 13 — The St. Francis High Sharks exploded for 36 second half points against Greenfield High to remain unscathed in Mission Trail Athletic League Coast division play on Friday in Greenfield.

Andy O’Rourke, Devin McLeod, Brandon Moakler, Carson Cuzick and Blaise Magaria all scored touchdowns in the second half for St. Francis (5-1, 2-0).

The Sharks host Harbor High next week at Emmett M. Geiser Field in Watsonville.

Alisal 35, Watsonville 7 — The Alisal High Trojans handed the Watsonville Wildcatz their first Monterey Bay League Gabilan division loss on Friday night in Salinas.

The Trojans (2-4, 1-1) jumped out to a 28-7 lead on the Wildcatz (4-2, 1-1) at the half and never looked back.

Watsonville heads into it’s bye week before returning home to host Gilroy High on Oct. 13.

Christopher 42, NMC 12 — The North Monterey County High Condors suffered their third consecutive loss on Friday night, falling to the undefeated Christopher High Cougars in Monterey Bay League Pacific division play.

N.M.C. (1-5, 0-2) will try to bounce back next week against Pajaro Valley High in it’s first-ever game on its brand new all-weather turf football field.
