The Cabrillo College Seahawks handled the San Jose City College Jaguars, 72-47, during their visit to S.J.C.C.’s new basketball arena Wednesday night, but it may have cost them one of their best players.
Lenorris Mincey, a sophomore forward from Apopka, Fla., suffered an ankle injury early in the first half when he landed awkwardly while attempting to collect an offensive rebound. Mincey did not return to the game and spent the rest of the night in a walking boot and on crutches.
There is currently no timetable for his return, according to Cabrillo coach Tony Marcopulos.
Hunter Seymour, a freshman from Charlotte, NC, got the first start of his college career in place of slumping sophomore shooting guard Darnell White. He scored only two points, but recorded seven rebounds and four blocks.
Trey Whitley scored a game-high 19 points to help the Seahawks open their Coast Conference South title defense with a win.
Cabrillo (12-4, 1-0) continues its conference season at Hartnell College tonight at 7 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
• Cabrillo wins by forfeit – The Foothill College Owls, last year’s co-champions of the Coast Conference South along with the Seahawks, have officially forfeited all their remaining conference games for the 2018-19 season.
A challenging preseason schedule and lack of subs broke the will of the seven players listed on the Owls’ roster.
“It’s a shame,” said Seahawks coach John Wilson. “They had a really tough preseason schedule, but they would have been one of the better teams in the conference.”
The six remaining Coast Conference South teams automatically received two victories toward their records.
The Seahawks (11-3, 2-0) travel to Salinas tonight to take on the Hartnell College Panthers (5-10, 2-0).
