Man arrested for Pajaro vehicle theft, burglary

PAJARO — A Watsonville man was arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing a truck near Pajaro, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Roberto Rodriguez, 46, is also suspected of breaking into and burglarizing several vehicles. He was charged with burglary, vandalism, vehicle theft and violating his Post Release Community Supervision. He was booked into Monterey County Jail.

According to the MCSO, deputies responded to a call of a male stealing a truck near Pajaro. After they arrived in the area, they found that several other vehicles had been broken into. Rodriguez drove through a chain link fence with the stolen truck.

While one deputy processed the crime scene, another went to the city of Watsonville, where he located the stolen truck abandoned down a side street.

As the deputy completed the investigation, he saw Rodriguez riding a bike less than a quarter of a mile from where the crime occurred, covered in blood and oil, which lead Deputies to believe he was a possible suspect.

A witness later identified Rodriguez as the man who stole the truck.
