WATSONVILLE — A 30-year-old Watsonville man who was wanted for robbery was arrested Monday evening on Green Valley Road. Michael Cervantes is now facing additional charges after attempting to escape from officers.
An alert community member recognized the wanted felon and called police Monday, Watsonville Police said.
The first arriving detectives, with the aid of a K-9 located Cervantes, who surrendered.
Before being booked into the Santa Cruz County jail, Cervantes was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared for jail custody. At the time, his handcuffs had been removed so that the doctor could examine him. That’s when Cervantes bolted toward the exit doors. But the officer guarding Cervantes quickly detained him with the help of a Taser.
Following a second medical exam, Cervantes was booked into county jail with a $250,000 bail.
