Man dies in San Juan Road crash

AROMAS — A 21-year-old Hollister man died and his male passenger was injured in a solo-vehicle crash late Friday night on San Juan Road.

Jessica Madueño, Public Information Officer with the California Highway Patrol, said that for unknown reasons the driver of a 2004 Toyota Tundra allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway while traveling eastbound on San Juan Road west of Murphy Road in Monterey County. The Toyota collided into a power pole on the south shoulder, continued south and rolled over.

The driver of the vehicle was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle, Madueño said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.  The passenger was transported to Natividad Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

The identity of the driver will be released pending notification of next of kin.

The California Highway Patrol wants to remind everyone that seat belts save lives and prevent injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
