APTOS — A man's body was found hanging from a rail trestle in Aptos Village early Monday morning.

Thousands of motorists saw the incident unfolding with some complaining to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office about the body being in plain sight.

Sheriff's Lt. Jim Ross said firefighters had to take the appropriate and safest channel to recover the body.

The recovery operation involved lowering a firefighter over the edge of the trestle above a 75-foot rugged ravine, which is at the corner of Soquel and Spreckels drives. The recovery operation lasted well over three hours.

Ross said they were aware of who the man was and the case would most likely be treated as a suicide. He added that family members were being notified.
