WATSONVILLE—A man was fatally struck by a vehicle late Sunday morning on Rodriguez Street near West Beach Street in Watsonville.

On Tuesday Sgt. Dee Baldwin of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the man as Baudelio Perez Pulido, 75, of Watsonville.

Perez Pulido was hit by another man driving a grey Chevy Silverado on Rodriguez Street in front of the Watsonville Discount Mall at 11:21 a.m on Sunday. Perez was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Sgt. Donny Thul of the Watsonville Police Department was on scene with the agency’s Traffic Unit for hours following the crash. The section of Rodriguez Street was shut down until about 5 p.m.

Thul said it was too soon to tell the cause of the crash, but that they had ruled out drugs or alcohol. He added that the driver was fully cooperative with investigators and law enforcement.

On Thursday, Michelle Pulido of WPD confirmed that the investigation was still ongoing.
