Maria Furtado, 87, a native of the Pico Azores Portugal, passed away February 12, 2018 surrounded by her family members.

She leaves behind three sons, Joe Furtado (Diane), Aluzino Furtado and Mario Furtado (Rene); two sisters, Beatrice Lucas and Adilia Terra both from Salinas; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her eldest granddaughter, Elaine Furtado, had been her loving and devoted caregiver for her last ten years.

Maria enjoyed cooking and she spoiled her family with her traditional homemade Portuguese foods. She loved to be in her garden and loved giving away the fruits and vegetables grown by her and her late husband, Francisco, to family.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Furtado (July 1996); son, Carlos Furtado (January 2017); grandson, Jimmy Furtado (January 1975) and great-granddaughter, Adrianna Furtado (December 2000).

Visitation will take place at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Tuesday, February 20, from 5-9 pm with the Rosary recited at 7 pm. A graveside service will be held at Valley Public Cemetery on Wednesday, February 21, at 11 am.
