WATSONVILLE — Mary Birimisa died at her home in Watsonville on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017 from a long illness. She was 94.

A native of Picete in the Konavle Valley of Croatia, Mrs. Birimisa came to the United States in 1961 after meeting and marrying her husband John in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

In the 1980s, Mrs. Birimisa worked as a food service substitute at cafeterias for the Pajaro Unified School District. She was a fine cook, baker and enjoyed sewing and doing alterations. She also enjoyed having coffee get-togethers with friends and family. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.

Mrs. Birimisa is survived by her son, Charles Birimisa of Watsonville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Croatia. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1970.

Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. with the Rosary and Chapel Blessing to begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Valley Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to a charity of your choice.
