WATSONVILLE — Nadine Vernal (Dodds) Travers, a longtime resident of Watsonville, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was 86.

Mrs. Travers was born in Montose, Colo. on Oct. 24, 1931 to Daniel and Elizabeth (Dufur) Dodds. They moved to California when she was 7 years old. She graduated from Watsonville high School. Shortly after graduating she married her high school “sweetheart” Manuel (Manny) Henry Travers, on Oct. 12, 1950.

Around this time she attended Cosmetology School in Santa Cruz. She worked for Smith’s Beauty Salon and later opened her own beauty shop in her home. She loved camping with her family. She also spent many years working in grocery stores and later for Taylor’s Office City in Watsonville.

She is survived by her husband, Manny Travers; her children, Karen (Travers) Russell, Manny (Patty) Travers and son-in-law Steve Taylor; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen (Travers) Taylor; sisters, Pauline David and Velma Hamblin; and son-in-law, William (Bill) Russell.

Donations can be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz or to Valley Catholic Church in Watsonville (Father Joseph).

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
