WATSONVILLEOn Tuesday neighborhoods throughout the City of Watsonville will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “36th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.

In all, over 37.1 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.” The Parks and Community Services Department and the Watsonville Police Department are sponsoring the 21st year of the event.

The goals of National Night Out are to increase crime and drug prevention awareness; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships.

It is expected that 17 neighborhoods throughout the City will host this event. Festivities include block parties, BBQ’s, DJ’s, activities for children and dance contests. Everyone is invited to come visit their nearby National Night out event.

Local government representatives, police officers and City staff will attend the different events to talk with neighbors about ways to promote a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly community. Fire department crews will also visit most of the sites aboard their fire engines.

Registration is free to all interested groups who wish to participate. If you wish to hold a future NNO event in your neighborhood or for more information regarding this year’s event contact Darío León with Parks and Community Services at 768-3291.
