Omar Melgoza-Cortes died on June 3 at Mission Hospice. He was 26.
He was born in Michoacán, Mexico to a loving family who moved to California after he was born. He enjoyed learning new things and teaching others. He graduated salutatorian from Watsonville High School.
He graduated from UC San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in evolution, behavior and ecology and accepted a job at Driscoll’s. He became well educated on Driscoll’s berries and loved in the Driscoll’s community.
Omar was diagnosed with cancer January 2018. His battle was difficult, but his hope and motivation persevered. His positivity and generosity shined wherever he went. Even through the most painful times, he smiled and fought. He touched so many lives through his caring and humble nature.
Omar is survived by his wife, Damitu Beyene; his father Rigoberto Melgoza; and one sister, Maria Vianney Melgoza-Cortes.
Visitation will be held at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel Sunday from 5-9 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at Valley Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
