PHOTO: Remembering the Begonia Festival

Volunteer Willard Schwartz (left) gets help from Matt Seuss (top) and Laurie Hill in volunteering their help to hang potted begonias around Capitola Monday to honor the Capitola Begonia Festival that ended in 2017 after 65 years. In lieu of the Begonia Festival, the new Capitola Beach Festival, Sept. 29 and 30, invites the public to participate in several events previously hosted by the Begonia Festival, including horseshoes in the sand, sand sculptures, rowboats, chalk art on the seawall and the fishing derby. The Beach Festival will also include a Lighted Nautical Parade on Soquel Creek and a three-mile foot race sponsored by the Wharf to Wharf Committee. Photo by Tarmo Hannula/Register-Pajaronian
