SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — The HOME – First Time Home Buyer Program helps locals  buy their first home by distributing loan down payments of up to $150,000 and grants to qualifying residents of Santa Cruz County.

“The county was awarded $1,000,000 this year which will fund its First Time Home Buyer and tenant-based rental assistance programs,” said Porcila Wilson, housing specialist for Santa Cruz County. “We anticipate having the funds ready this fall.”

The Home Investment Partnership program distributes loans through a competitive process in which annual income is a factor for eligibility, and funds are extremely limited. The application process is on a first-come, first-served basis,  according to Santa Cruz County officials.

A minimum of 5 percent cash down payment is required and you must be a first-time home buyer to qualify.

In the last 20 years, 1,000 Santa Cruz County residents were able to buy homes through this program. For information and to apply, visit www.sccoplanning.com.
