WATSONVILLE — The 16th annual Fitness 4 Life took place on May 3 at the Watsonville High athletic field. About 1,000 students from 19 schools in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District’s Extended Learning Program, grades 2-8, joined the fun.

Jen Bruno, curriculum coach for Extended Learning, said the event is designed to celebrate students that have made healthy choices throughout the school year, including swimming, dancing, gardening sports, healthy diets and games.

“It’s just a fun way to celebrate the choices they’re making,” she said. “This year was so exciting for me because my son, Rowan, was taking part in it in his first grade class.

Jump houses, and slides, bicycles, bean bag toss, dancing, tug-a-war, getting dusted with colorful powders, building blocks, giant Legos, and soccer skills were on the list of fun things to do. Bruno said each kid came away with a free T-shirt and water bottle.
