USL2: Santa Cruz Breakers FC back on track

SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz Breakers FC gave the home crowd something to cheer about on Sunday after a 5-1 win against San Francisco Glens SC in Western Conference Southwest Division play.

Ettore Ballestracci scored a game-high two goals and now has a team-high four goals for the SC Breakers. He also recorded two assists.

The SC Breakers rebounded after last week’s 3-1 home loss against Orange County SC U23.

Walmer Martinez scored the first goal for the Breakers to make it 1-0. He also scored a goal in the teams’ previous meeting in May, which resulted in a 1-1 tie.

San Francisco Glens tied it up at 1-all after Luis Lopez made his shot hit the back of the net in the 30th minute. But Jeremy Romero followed up with his first goal of the season to give back the SC Breakers the lead, 2-1, just before halftime.

Ballestracci extended the lead to 4-1 after knocking in both of his goals in the 55th and 56th minute.

Riley Hanley added another goal, which gives him three this season.

The Breakers are currently tied for second place with 10 points (3-4-1) in the Western Conference Southwest Division with Ventura County Fusion (10 points) and just behind FC Golden State Force (16).

The Breakers went 2-1 in a three-game home stand. Next up, they hit the road to play against the Southern California Seahorses on Friday at Whittier College with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
