Watsonville High softball regrouped from its slump with a pair of Monterey Bay League Gabilan division wins over Gilroy High and Notre Dame-Salinas on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Watsonville (19-3, 6-3) beat Gilroy behind pitcher Jessica Rodriguez’s three-hit, 10-strikeout shutout.

Juliana Wilson doubled, scored and had two RBIs. Devyn Bugayong also had two RBIs, while Angelina Heredia doubled.

Rodriguez sat down another 10 batters in Friday’s win. She allowed only two hits, and an earned run.

Zaira Pena brought home a pair of runs, and Savanah Quintana had two hits and a scored run.

Watsonville plays Christopher High on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Aptos 12, Santa Cruz 1 – Aptos High pounded out 16 hits to win its eighth straight Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League game on Thursday.

Vanessa Segura hit a home run and Sunshyne Brechler tripled, while Martina Churchill and Mariah Sanchez combined to go 6-for-8 with three RBIs, two doubles and four scored runs.

Aptos (10-6, 8-0) plays at Harbor on Thursday at 4 p.m.

St. Francis 16, Scotts Valley 6 – Claire Cagnacci hit a homer and a double, had 6 RBIs and scored two runs to help St. Francis High cruise to its historic fifth SCCAL win on Thursday.

The five victories this season are a program record for most league wins in a single season.

Ashley Raich tripled and scored four times. Lena Ciandro doubled.

St. Francis (11-8, 5-3) travels to San Lorenzo Valley High on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Seaside 10, MVC 2 – Isabel Hollingsworth doubled, tripled and scored Monte Vista Christian’s two runs in the Mustangs’ MBL-Pacific division loss on Friday.

Kirsten Pederson tripled. Samantha Baer doubled and had two RBIs.

M.V.C. (4-13-1, 2-7) plays at North Salinas High on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

HS BASEBALL

Salinas 4, MVC 2 – Garret Laine recorded a hit for the 11th straight game in Monte Vista Christian’s 4-2 MBL-G loss on Friday evening.

Laine also scored a run for M.V.C. (8-16, 4-11), which travels to Christopher High in Gilroy to play the Cougars on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Marshall Silva had two hits and an RBI for the Mustangs, who lost 3-0 to San Benito High on Thursday.

Aptos 7, Leland 3 – Aptos bounced back from a stunning SCCAL loss against San Lorenzo Valley High on Thursday with a big non-league road win on Saturday.

David Reckers, Josh Barry, Jack Bollengier and Luke Keaschall all recorded a pair of singles in Aptos’s (14-6, 5-2) weekend victory.

Jacob Mendoza knocked in two runs, and also tossed the final inning from the mound, allowing one hit.

Shane Modena picked up the win. He scattered nine hits.

In Thursday’s loss, Aptos recorded just three hits. Bollengier hit a triple and walked.

Reckers allowed just one hit and no earned runs, but walked seven batters in the loss.

Aptos travels to Santa Cruz High on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Alisal 4, Watsonville 2 – The Wildcatz dropped their second straight MBL-P game on Friday to league-leading Alisal High.

Watsonville (9-8, 9-5) hosts Alvarez High on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

St. Francis sweeps – St. Francis swept its SCCAL season series against Soquel with back-to-back wins on Thursday and Friday. The Sharks beat the Knights, 4-3, and, 8-3, respectively.

On Thursday, St. Francis (15-5, 6-2) rallied for four runs over the final two innings. Julian Mendoza, David Talavera, Derric Estrada-Haro and Chase Watkins all scored.

Felipe Padia-Noriega picked up the victory on the mound after three solid innings (5 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts).

On Friday, Estrada-Haro hit two doubles, had two RBIs and scored once. Josiah Granados-Diaz doubled, had two RBIs and scored a run. Watkins scored twice, had two hits, an RBI and two walks.

St. Francis welcomes in Aptos on Thursday at 4 p.m.

JC BASEBALL

Canada 5, Cabrillo 3 (10 innings) – Cabrillo College lost its season finale on Friday afternoon.

Rob Carling hit a pair of doubles and knocked in a run. Ivan Perez also doubled for Cabrillo, which finished its season at 14-24 overall and 7-11 in Coast Conference Pacific division action.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD

Aptos 108, SLV 23 – Hunter Matys won the 100- and 200-meters and also took first in the long jump to help Aptos finish off its SCCAL dual meet season undefeated on Thursday.

Matys recorded winning times of 11.65 seconds and 23.52, respectively, while leaping 20 feet, 11 inches to capture first in the long jump.

Alex Austen placed first in the discus (137-10) and shot put (43-6).

Parker cruises – St. Francis’s Justin Parker won the 100 (11.88) in the Sharks’ SCCAL dual meet against Harbor High, Mt. Madonna and Soquel at Soquel on Thursday.

Mt. Madonna’s Sage Turner was a victor in the 110 hurdles (19.85).

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Aptos 91, SLV 45 – Brynn Mitchell’s victories in the triple jump (34-5) and long jump (16-7) guided Aptos to a perfect SCCAL dual meet season on Thursday.

Bellucci wins two – Samantha Bellucci won the long jump (14-5.75) and the triple jump (31-5) in St. Francis’s SCCAL dual meet with Harbor, Mt. Madonna and Soquel on Thursday at Soquel.

Fellow Shark, Camryn Ryan, won the 1,600 in 6:02.66.

Mt. Madonna’s Anmei Dasbach-Prisk edged a teammate for first in the 100 hurdles (23.07).

Deleissegues, Bellucci pick up wins – St. Francis teammates Chloe Deleissegues and Samantha Bellucci recorded wins at the Alisal High Invitational on Saturday in Salinas.

Deleissegues won the 400 (1:02.64) and Bellucci was first in the high jump (4-8).

North Monterey County High’s Jocelyn Cazarez won the shot put (36-3) and the discus (110).
