The Pajaro Valley United FC had a golden chance to jump into first place of the Wild West Division but came up short against division-rival Contra Costa FC in a 6-1 loss on Saturday at Northgate High in Walnut Creek.
PV United tied the game in the 23rd minute to make it 1-1 but Contra Costa FC scored just before halftime to take back the one-goal lead.
Contra Costa FC kept the pressure going in the second half and scored in the 60th minute to make it 3-1. They scored against eight minutes later and sealed the deal with two more goals (78' and 80').
PV United FC finished with just a shot on goal, while Contra Costa FC had nine shots. They drop to 6-1-2 with 19 points just behind Contra Costa FC (8-0-1) with 24 points.
PV United FC will close the regular season against the Oakland Stompers on Saturday at Watsonville High with kickoff slated for 5 p.m.
However, PV United FC is still in the playoffs after finishing in the top-eight and will host a home game for being in the top-four. The United Premier Soccer League will announce all the playoff information on June 15.
