Pajaro Valley United wins regular season finale via forfeit

Ettore Ballestracci scored two goals for the Santa Cruz Breakers FC in a 3-1 win on Sunday against San Francisco City FC in USL2 Southwest Division play.

The Breakers (5-5-2) now sit in second place in the division standings with 17 points and just two games left in the season.

The Breakers took a 1-0 lead after Ballestracci scored his first goal of the game in the 29th minute. Riley Hanley was credited with the assist.

Felipe Oliveira scored his first goal of the season in the 56th minute, while Carlos Valdovinos was credited with the assist.

Ballestracci scored his second goal — eighth of the season — shortly after in the in the 63rd. Jonathan Colunga was credited with the assist.

San Francisco City scored its lone goal of the game in the second half.

The Breakers play their final home game against Ventura County Fusion (5-2-1) in a battle for second place in the Southwest Division. The match takes place at Santa Cruz High on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Pajaro Valley FC 1, Oakland Stompers 0 >> Pajaro Valley United FC won its regular season finale after the Oakland Stompers forfeited the game, PV reported.

PV was awarded three points and finished the year in third place with 22 points in the UPSL Western Conference Wild West Division.

Just ahead of them were Nevada Coyotes FC (7-2-1), also with 22 points but won the tie breaker based on goal differential, and Contra Costa FC (9-1-0) with a league-winning 27 points.   

Next up, PV will host a first round playoff game against San Leandro United FC (4-4-2) on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Watsonville High.

San Leandro, which finished sixth in the Wild West standings with 14 points, played PV on March 3, with the United defeating San Leandro, 2-1, at home.


Little League

PV 5, Scotts Valley 4 >> Brady Cortez got a game-winning RBI in the eighth inning to help the PV Giants defeat Scotts Valley in the semifinal round of the District 39 Majors Tournament of Champions.  

Elias Siegal tripled and scored on a throwing error to give PV a 2-0 lead after two innings.

PV advanced to the District 39 Championship Game, which takes place on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Capitola-Soquel Little League Majors Field.

Diego Mejia came up with a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth in a 13-12 walk-off win on Thursday against Aptos.  

PV will face the winner of today’s elimination game between Capitola-Soquel and Scotts Valley at CSLL Majors Field with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.


Boys tennis

Koosha Safari makes singles finals >> Aptos native Koosha Safari made it to the Boys’ 14 Singles-Open finals on Sunday at the Niru's Tennis Academy Junior Open (Grand Prix) and Challenger.

However, Safari, came up short in a loss against top-seeded Daniel Sagatelian in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (2).

Safari, who earned the No. 2 seed, defeated Jacob Callahan in the semifinals and easily got past Brenndon Albers to two straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.   

Sagatelian defeated Santa Cruz native Benjamin Bellito in the semifinals. Bellito won his quarterfinals match against Avinash Schwarzkopf in two sets, 7-5, 6-2.
