The Aptos Mariners will roll into the new year with an unscathed 6-0-2 record following an 8-0 rout of Pacific Collegiate School on Dec. 20.

Olivia Meier, Jazmin Castaneda and Aubree Westjohn scored two goals apiece for Aptos, while Haley Veldhuis and Brynn Mitchell each scored once and dished an assist. Meier and and Castaneda also made an assist, as did Bella McDaniel.

Aptos will begin its Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League title defense on Jan. 8 at San Lorenzo Valley. The Mariners have won the league championship in five straight seasons.

MVC 6, Stevenson 0 – Shayna Lebovitz, Jana Komposch, Madison Pullen and Aryanna Sicoli all scored goals in the Mustangs’ preseason romp on Dec. 20.

M.V.C. continues Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress division play at St. Francis on Jan. 3.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Enterprise 70, St. Francis 51   E.J. Kelly had 17 points and five assists and Andrew Seymour chipped in 14 points and six rebounds for the Sharks in their preseason loss on Dec. 22.

Jake Taylor chipped in 11 points for St. Francis (6-2), which host Gunderson on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Taylor also had 13 points the night before in the Shark’s 49-30 win over Mid Peninsula. Kelly swished four 3s and dished five assists in the victory.

Harbor 57, Watsonville 42 – Johnny Silapan had 18 points, four rebounds and two assists for the Wildcatz in their non-league loss on Dec. 21.

Lucas Ruiz gabbed 10 boards for Watsonville (9-4), which travels across town to St. Francis on Jan. 3.

Aptos 52, Pajaro Valley 44 – Bryan Gallardo had 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting from deep in the Grizzlies’ loss to the Mariners on Dec. 21.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Aptos 57, North Salinas 43 – Gabby Giuffre and Natalia Ackerman each had 18 points to lead the Mariners over the Vikings in the first round of the Joe Schram Holiday Classic on Thursday evening in Mountain View.

Ackerman also pulled down 17 rebounds, made three blocks and forced four steals, while Hannah Hocom chipped in 13 points for Aptos (7-3), which plays host St. Francis-Mountain View today at 6:15 p.m. in the second round of the tournament, and finishes off tournament play on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against Moreau Catholic.

Shafter 57, Pajaro Valley 40 – The Grizzlies fell in the first round of the Don and Martha Price Christmas Classic on Thursday.

No other stats were reported.

Pajaro Valley (6-4) continues tournament play today at 9 a.m. back at Monte Vista Christian.

NMC 41, Monterey 27 – Faith Mora earned a spot on the All-King City Christmas Classic team after recording a 12-point, 14-rebound double-double in the Condors’ win on Dec. 21.

The Condors (4-4) are back in action on Jan. 8 at home against St. Francis.

Presentation 51, Aptos 46 – Natalia Ackerman had 16 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and four steals in the Mariners’ non-league loss on Dec. 21.

Gabby Giuffre added 15 points, four steals, three assists and two blocks.

BOYS SOCCER

MVC 3, Stevenson 0 – Josh Hollingsworth, Johnny Brinton and Mark Spohn all scored for lead the Mustangs over the Pirates in non-league play on Dec. 20.

The Mustangs (2-6-1) will begin PCAL-Cypress play on Jan. 9 at Seaside.

Watsonville 4, Pajaro Valley 0 – Jael Leal and Angel Luis Hernandez scored two goals a piece for the Wildcatz in their non-league win over the rival Grizzlies on Dec. 21.

Alexis Valenzuela provided an assist and Daniel Medina made one save in goal for Watsonville (5-1-1), which heads to Hawaii for three games starting on Wednesday before returning home to begin PCAL-Gabilan play against San Benito at home on Jan. 8.
